Printing Function Locked in Chrome Browser

Generally I use Firefox, but Chrome is better for some things

Chrome can lock up all its printing functions if the printer configuration is incorrect.
Any attempt to print from Chrome, including to a pdf brings the message "the selected printer is not available", even though the pages print perfectly from Firefox. There does not seem to be any way to fix the faulty setting from the Chrome menu.

The json file .config/google-chrome/Default/Preferences has a section "printing":{ ..various settings.. },

If the printers are checked, and this section of the file is entirely removed (easy to do with vim), printing is reenabled, both to the CUPS printers and the cloud as well as pdf's.

There is no need to delete the entire Preferences file, and lose other useful settings.
